TAKE TIME TO LEARN ABOUT THESE DEVICES Your careful attention is needed to understand the devices on this page. A quick glance will provide little information. No device is "typical" or "common". Each item has been created to meet a specific need, especially for the use of simple musical instruments by physically or mentally challenged individuals. There is no age limit for their application. For the thoughful therapist or clinician a particular device may fill a need other than that for which it was originally created. A couple devices are free standing, but the majority are intended to be secured by one of the nine clamps presented. In fact, most cannot fulfill their purpose without being held by a clamp. This securing attribute was an essential reason for their initial creation. Challenged persons need this property to assist them in making their efforts to "make music" successful. Think of it as an "extra hand" for someone whose arm and hand abilities are greatly limited. An important aspect of the devices to secure is that each can be used with any clamp. Therefore, one clamp can be obtained to work with several devices. Three of the nine clamps have extenders that can secure 2 devices at one time. There are 9 different clamps because the edges of wheel chair trays and table tops are so varied. The "short" clamps are for edges that are quite small, while the "mid" clamps accomodate larger edges. The "deep" clamps are for edges that are quite high. The "deep" clamps are the best choice for someone who is faced with transcending a variety of edges. "Reach" is also a consideration when selecting a clamp. Reach is the distance a device can be placed inward from the edge of a wheel chair tray, desk, or table. The clamps with extenders give the greatest reach flexibility. To simplify the selection of a secured device and a clamp necessary for its use, there are 4 bundles listed under each device that include a clamp. The bundles are priced at a 5% discount over the separate prices of each device and clamp. Links to the various devices and clamps are in the adjacent left column. Read them over carefully and follow those that seem most likely to meet your needs.
